Senior Night
Saturday was Senior Night for the high school soccer team. Well, technically it was Senior Morning. The original date for Senior Night was rescheduled because one of the Seniors got a red card at the game prior to the Senior Night game.
That Senior happened to be Nicole.
The Dean of Students had a chat with her at school the day after the red card. I asked her what he had said to her.
“There’s never a dull moment with you.”
I thought it was pretty funny. She thought it was unfair since she is going on several months of dull moments.
Yes, there have been plenty of moments that have not exactly been dull. In fact, I drafted a post about one of them back in June 2014. She didn’t want me to post it back then because she thought it made her look like an awful kid.
She, of course, is not an awful kid. In fact, she has a heart of gold. And part of me is actually very thankful for these moments. They have made me less judgmental. Prior to these moments, I would have judged other kids and, even more so, their parents for similar moments.
I apologize to all you parents out there of “awful” kids whom I have previously judged. To hopefully make you laugh, here is that draft post that Nicole has finally given me the okay to publish.
Party at the Moody’s
Dave and I had been planning on going to the lake last weekend until I got a phone call from one of the school administrators. She wanted to know if I was aware I was hosting a party at my house Saturday night for approximately 60 high schoolers. After giggling nervously, I told her no and thanked her for the information.
When I told Dave about the phone call, he suggested that we make a run to Costco for hamburgers.
Dave had a conversation with Nicole, and do you know who got upset with whom? She got upset with me.
Now, I know this is perfectly normal (though unacceptable) behavior for a teenager. Various siblings of mine hosted a few parties. I don’t recall ever being invited to those parties even though one of my brothers is just one year younger than me, and he had some very cute friends who never once expressed an interest in me. But I’m over it.
I, myself, never had a party. Even if I had thrown a party, I would have been lucky to get 3, maybe 4, kids there max. And we would have eaten popcorn while watching Dallas. However, Nicole’s father, depicted front and center in the picture below, did throw a party.
He would have gotten away with it scot-free except for the fact that he used my mother-in-law’s camera to take pictures. When he came home the day she had the film developed, she smacked him. Unfortunately, this is no longer the 70’s, and smacking teenagers is frowned upon. So Nicole’s punishment is that she has to come to the lake. To eat s’mores and ice cream and go boating, tubing, and water skiing. With her mother.
Congrats, Nicole, on your high school soccer career. I am very proud of you.
Ahhh…….the teenage years with my brother Dave….”Never a dull moment”; but I’m glad for the memories of that time !!!! Congrats Nicole ,,, you are awesome. Luv-Auntie Debbie xoxoxox
So she asked if we could blame all this on him. I told her yes.
