A Fortnight
It’s been two weeks since I last posted.
Anyone worried?
If so, to alleviate those worries, here’s a quick update on what’s been happening.
First, there was a graduation party. A graduation party with I-don’t-know-how-many teenagers. I believe this was our fourth or fifth such party of the season starting with the after-prom party. Here is a pic of one of those parties. My strongest objection here is to the use of my table.
Before the graduation party, I gave my husband three options. 1) No party. 2) Together, we set and enforce reasonable rules for the party – like no cooking spaghetti in my kitchen at 4 in the morning. 3) I spend the night at the lake.
After purchasing, preparing, and serving all the food for the grad party, I headed up to the lake.
That kicked off a week of vacation. I had the usual great time of boating, sunning, eating, and spending time with family. Here are some pretty pictures of clouds for you.
Although on vacation, I was worried about Phil, and I was worried about my mother, and I am always worried about my kids. It’s what I do. And when I’m worried, I tend to go into hyperdrive. To the point where I make people uncomfortable, and I myself know I am being ridiculous. Heather told me on our run, “You never stop thinking.” As I was slapping some paint on a wall, my mother said “Poor Michelle.” When the nurse said “Just relax,” my brother Matt asked her if she was talking to me. As I was hovering over Phil, he, in no uncertain terms, conveyed the fact that I should back off. Towards the end of the week, my mother asked me a couple of times what I was going to do with the week ahead in the hopes I’d be able to enjoy it.
So, what did I do with the week post vacation?
Well, it started off with Nicole hitting a tire in the middle of 495 on her way to the Cape. Since she wasn’t sure the car was drivable, Meagan and I had to quickly come up with an alternative plan for her getting to Logan in case I had to drive to Taunton. Amazingly enough, the bus schedule worked out perfectly, and AAA managed to remove the portion of the front bumper that was dragging on the ground so that the car was drivable. So I actually gained a couple hours of free time. I suppose I’ll call the insurance company today.
Since then, my time has been totally consumed by the Democratic National Convention. I feel like my team is in the World Series, and I desperately need it to be over so I can recover from the adrenaline rushes and late nights. As far as I’m concerned, there have been several home run speeches (Michelle’s, Bill’s, and Obama’s). I’m hoping for at least one more tonight.
And it’s not just my sleeping hours that have been impacted by the convention. My waking hours have as well. I can’t stay away from Facebook and Twitter and following links to see what people are saying about the convention. And I’m saying stuff! I even had an email exchange with a political cartoonist today. The ball is currently in his court.
Okay, so maybe I haven’t alleviated any worries.
