Committees and Reports
Towards the end of my career, I told my friend/boss/co-worker that I didn’t want to be a manager. And I didn’t want to be a project leader. I didn’t want to lead period. I just wanted to be an individual contributor.
And he said, “But you can’t help yourself.”
There might be some truth to that.
So, fast forward to present day, and it looks like I’m leading a committee.
A committee that is part of Indivisible Groton called the Senate Watch Committee. Pretty cool, right? The name I mean. Not the fact that I am leading it.
Somehow this has also landed me on the temporary Steering Committee, but we will see how long that lasts.
So what does the Senate Watch Committee do? Each of us has a thread that we are following in the news, and we track what our senators (Warren and Markey), as well as other senators, are up to with respect to that thread. Our plan is to summarize threads for the larger Indivisible group and to put ourselves in a position to quickly respond as needed to encourage/support Warren and Markey in any actions they take.
One of my first steps as leader was to sign up my husband as a member. We’ll see if that turns out to be a brilliant move on my part or a disaster.
My thread is tracking the investigations into the Russian interference with the 2016 election. As a result, I got to get back to one of the things I actually miss about work: writing reports.
Here’s the start of my report: Inquiries into Russian Interference.
I finished the first draft yesterday, and it already needs to be updated.
Next meeting is Sunday night. Want to join us?
