Doors and Windows

In the few days I have between weddings/vacations, I’ve been keeping busy.

First, I managed to bring the saga of my garage doors to a successful close. Sort of.

If you recall, Nicole backed into one of the garage doors in early April.  I had someone come out to replace it, but the windows didn’t quite match the windows in my other door. After some pushing from me to get that resolved, the installer disappeared.

On to installer #2. They took my deposit, ordered a new panel for my old door, and promptly forgot about me. When I called to remind them of my existence, they told me the manufacturer said it could not be done.

I was ready to give up, but I took a nap and then started over again.

I had installer #3 and installer #4 come out at the same time to give me a quote. Apparently this is not the right thing to do. Installer #3 thanked me for wasting his time.

Installer #4, however, was a winner. He got the right panel and installed it yesterday. The windows now match, and the doors are ready for painting. The reason I say the saga is sort of closed is because he pointed out that the weather stripping around the doors needs replacing, but that shouldn’t be done until after the painting.

I just want to be able to cross “garage doors” off my list.

My next project is having some windows replaced. I originally thought I just needed two replaced. I’m getting ten. Installation was scheduled for early August, but they called yesterday and asked if they could come today. I said why not. I don’t have much going on.

They called me at 8 to say they were on their way from Waltham. They called me at 9 to say they were on my street but couldn’t find my house. I gave them directions. They called me at 9:10 to say they were in Bellingham.

This install should go well.

Of course, I’ve also been preparing for the next wedding/vacation. Because there is a lot of coordination required for this one, I’ve come up with a note, currently at 31 lines in length, that documents various details. I’ve shared this note with my husband in the hopes of avoiding a barrage of questions from him, many of them repeated several times. Of course, I won’t be entirely successful with this. For example, the note clearly states I’m heading up on Thursday. His first question was “You’re not going up on Wednesday?”

Finally, I’ve been helping my parents clear out the condo that they have recently sold. But that will be a whole other post. One that attempts to explain why the words “stud finder” and “spices” were included in the same text message.

And, don’t worry, I’m going outside to get to the weeds in that picture RIGHT NOW.
