Jake!

We had a quick visit from Dave’s great-nephew Jake recently.

As soon as he got out of the car, he started asking questions, telling stories, and giving his observations on life in general.

He brought three of his Disney Pixar cars, which I imagine was a hard limit set by his mother. He told me he was happy playing with his cars and didn’t need any other toys. In fact, he said he didn’t even need to go to the pool.

Lauren convinced him we might want to at least check it out.

On the way out the door, we saw a white Ibis in the front yard. He asked in amazement “How did that bird get there?”

We walked to the pool, which is a hike for a 4 year old. I pointed out there were actually two pools – an adult pool and a family pool. He wanted to know if he could swim in the family pool.

He spent the next hour and a half in the pool and mentioned a couple of times he wanted a Florida house.

Eventually Lauren convinced him to get out of the pool so we could go to the playground. We spent a little less time there. About an hour.

On the way back to the house, we saw some people in the pool. He asked “Michelle, how come there are people swimming in your pool?” I tried to explain that it wasn’t my pool, but he was having none of that.

While walking back (even more of a hike for a 4 year old after swimming and playing for two and half hours), he asked me “Michelle, what color is your house?” This struck me as funny because every house in the community is some varying shade of beige.

It also struck me as funny that he called me “Michelle” even though Lauren tried to convince him a couple of times to call me “Auntie Michelle”.

Dave then took him for a golf cart ride where he once again said he wanted a Florida house.

Earlier in the day, Jake had also visited the zoo. At dinner, I thought he was going to fall off his chair he was so tired. But he remained cheerful except for the two times he hit his head trying to get between the dining room chair and a chest of drawers. Dave ended up moving the chest.

As Lauren, Craig, and her in-laws were packing up to leave, Jake discovered a toy he wanted to play with (markers). Lauren convinced him it was time to go.
