Job Opportunities

It has been a little over two months, and I haven’t talked about my job search. That’s because I haven’t done too much searching. But here are some possibilities that have popped up along the way:

  1. Web page content reviewer/developer – I have absolutely no professional experience or formal training in this area, but there are a lot of web sites out there that could use some pretty basic help. I actually responded to a job posting and was asked if I had a creative writing sample on hand. After 30 years of working computer security?? I came up with something and sent it off.  She liked it, but the job itself never materialized. So, I needed to find something to do with that creative writing sample.  Hence, Week 1.
  2. True Value cashier – I saw the help wanted sign as I was leaving the store one day. It seriously crossed my mind. However, this would be the equivalent of a teenage girl getting a job at Hollister.  My salary would go towards my employee discount.
  3. Mahoney’s Garden Center – I saw this because I am on their emailing list. But I would have the same problem as above. Plus I would have to work Memorial Day weekend.
  4. Insurance Agent – As a result of my resume on Monster, I got a couple of emails asking if I would like to start a new career as an insurance agent. I can see my sales pitch now: “Do you want the insurance, or not.”
  5. ??? – I got a phone call one day from a recruiter who had seen my resume on Monster. I don’t really know what the job entailed, because I was sort of rude to her (I wasn’t in a phone mood at the time), and she quickly excused herself from the conversation. Probably not a good move on my part.
  6. Cyber security engineer – I have seen a few jobs on LinkedIn, and I have gotten contacted. But no. Not yet anyway.
  7. Assistant to a home builder/renovator – I am interested in flipping houses. I love the idea of taking something that is run down and making it look well-maintained, organized, and decluttered. When I see a house that is poorly maintained, I am itching to get at it.  However, I don’t know anything about flipping, and, as I mentioned, I only recently learned how to locate a stud. I think being an assistant to someone who knows what they are doing would be a good way to start. However, I don’t have much practice at being an “assistant”. I tend to tell people what to do, even if I work for them.
That’s about it for now.  I’m trying.  (But not very hard.)
