Oh, the Places You’ll Go!
Meagan was traveling for work last week, and while she was away, she would send us a text message and a few photos every day.
Upon importing the photos, each photo was labeled with its location. Locations included Gammarth, Ariana, Tunis, Sidi Bou Said, La Marsa, Ruins of Carthage, and ساحة القصبة.
Given the terrorist attacks in that area, we were all a little concerned. However, I’m the only one who was reluctantly smart enough to realize that we are well past the point of being able to tell Meagan what she can or cannot do.
She didn’t provide much information on what she was doing out there for work other than these two text messages:
After reading that, I couldn’t help but think about how some of my previous co-workers might have responded to that first day of feedback. I’m guessing their presentations would have been down in the weeds, rather than too high level, so the feedback would have been the opposite. The second day of presentations would have also been down in the weeds because they would have questioned the intellect of the audience and disregarded the feedback. I’m also not sure about them enjoying a Tunisian salad overlooking a view.
She also happened to be there on National Women’s Day. (Who knew?)
She took full advantage of her down time. Activities included a quick swim in the Mediterranean Sea, shopping in Sidi Bou Said – a town famous for white and blue buildings overlooking the sea, walking the beach, touring a 300 year old Tunisian home, having tea outdoors in a traditional tea room, visiting some ancient sites and ruins, running into the U.S. ambassador to Libya, and eating gelato.
I can’t help but think back to the people who asked, with incredulity in their voice, what Meagan was going to do with a political science degree from that fancy, liberal arts, all-girls school.
