Portugal Travels – Adventure 8

This is it! The final adventure!

We left our lovely AirBnb with the beautiful view of Porto and traveled by train back to Lisbon. This time to the Alfama district where we checked into Memmo Alfama for a one night stay.

Lisbon Adventure #8

As part of Adventure 8, Matt had a couple more enlightenment spots listed that he designated as “could skip”. We skipped them.

With our last day energy, we decided to focus on Castelo de São Jorge while enjoying the walk there and back. It was yet another beautiful day. However, this is when we got a glimpse of the wildfires that were about to plague Portugal and shut down a number of sites (including some we had visited) the following week.

While at Castelo de São Jorge, we had our final opportunities of the travels to fall to our deaths like the stick figures in the caution signs we occasionally came across. Not all opportunities are pictured here.

On the walk back, we popped into a few shops for some last minute souvenirs.

Then there was one final dinner of tapas on the terrace of the hotel where we were provided blankets.

Travels Home

Matt, Megan, and Carolyn had an earlier flight home than us, so we missed them at the complimentary breakfast. I had my last Pastel de Nata (yes, at breakfast), and it was actually one of the best of the trip. We Ubered to the airport where the authentically nice Uber driver walked us into the airport to make sure we were headed in the right direction. The flight home (Economy Plus) was uneventful other than the fact that I came down with a headache mid-flight and was violently ill next to carousel 6 in the baggage claim of Logan’s Terminal E. As I mentioned in my first post, I was a few days recovering from this one.

Obrigado

The one Portuguese word I latched on to was “obrigado”. It means thank you. It was used often. It was used sincerely. At times, it seemed heartfelt. And, occasionally, I could have sworn it could have been translated to “Let’s party!”

Obrigado Portugal. Obrigado the people of Portugal. And obrigado Matt for planning such an amazing trip.
