Republican Senators Have To Go
As a result of these confirmation hearings, I have developed a deep loathing for Mitch McConnell and the Republican Senators.
Oh, how I would love to “nevertheless” McConnell.
The New York Times is maintaining a nifty chart indicating how each Senator voted on the nominees.
The chart shows that
- Democrats have voted “yes” 44% of the time.
- Republicans have voted “no” less than 1% of the time.
Now, there are plenty of ways to interpret the numbers, but to me, that tells me the Republicans are the stubborn and inflexible party. Especially since many of these nominees are highly questionable.
So I desperately want to get them out of there.
But what can I do as a resident of a blue state with absolutely wonderful Members of Congress (Warren, Markey, and Tsongas)?
Well I asked around, and here are some suggestions:
- Move. Don’t laugh. If you think about it, if all those illegal voters in CA and MA (apparently we voted in NH) moved to a few of those red states, the problem would be solved. And our votes would count.
- Make friends with voters in red (or purple) states. The liberal voters that is. Cheer them on in being active. Help them out by making calls. Move in with them even. I have options in NH, FL, NC, WI, and IA. Though I’m not sure how liberal my WI/IA contact is.
- Support efforts to get rid of the electoral college.
- Donate to liberal charities in red states.
- Support a red state Democrat in their 2018 campaign. There’s a bunch of good ones including Sherrod Brown (OH), Amy Klobuchar (MN), Claire McCaskill (MO), and Tammy Baldwin (WI).
For more detail on these actions and others, please check out the Take Action! page on this website. You don’t have to do all of them. But one or two would be nice.
And just one tweet today.
