Scrapbook: The Kitchen

Here’s the post where I unveil the new kitchen counters, even though you got a sneak peak with that photo of my Red Sox mug in my previous post.

First, a few shots of the original kitchen that depict:

• Oak cabinets with “oak” formica countertops
• The sink, the dishwasher, and the compactor located in different spots than they are today
• Dining area with changing table
• Linoleum floor
• Wallpaper with a tiny print
• A decorated fridge
• Updated wallpaper with a tiny print, a border, and “wainscoting”
• A tile backsplash that we installed ourselves
• My love for hearts, ducks, and other things country (Oh, where did that love go?)

Now for a small diversion. Yes, that last photograph took place in the kitchen, but I included it because of what I found written on the back of it:

Translated (to the best of my ability) it says: To Mom, Love Heather. Why did you take a picture of Meagan, Dave, Zachary, and Amber and not me or Nicole? Love. Love Heather Moody.

At least there were three loves in there. (I think. Not sure about the one off to the right. Or about the “or Nicole”.) So even though this message makes it clear I didn’t love her enough to take her picture or even know who she was, at least I know she loved me.

Back to the kitchen.

In 2000, we gutted it. New floor, new cabinets, new appliances in new locations, new kitchen table, no changing table, new countertops, and new wallpaper with new border. Since 2000, there have only been a couple of small changes. We replaced the wallpaper with paint, a few light fixtures have come and gone, and the woodwork has been painted white.

Now that the counters are in, I think I’m done. With the kitchen.
