Towards Civic Engagement
Do you know who your members of Congress are?
It’s easy to find out.
- Go to this senate.gov page to find your senators.
- Go to this house.gov page to find your representative.
Once you find out who they are, find out who they are. Take a look at their web pages and social media accounts. Read about what they are saying from reputable news sources. Listen to what they are saying on TV, on the web, or in person. See if they stand for what you stand for. Figure out if you are going to vote for them or against them the next time they are up for election. Get ready for 2018.
Then contact them. By phone, by letter, by email, by social media. Whatever method you are comfortable with. Tell them “Good job!” or “Shape up!” or “Never again!” or “Please?”
My members of congress are Senator Elizabeth Warren, Senator Ed Markey, and Representative Niki Tsongas.
I like what I’ve been seeing from all three of them.
Tonight we fight for American values at airports all across this country. I'm at Logan Airport now to say: #nomuslimban #NoBanNoWall

Proud to stand against @realDonaldTrump's #MuslimBan with thousands in Copley Square. #NoBanNoWall https://t.co/SAbAEaeFOq

Elizabeth Warren is up for election in 2018, and I will certainly be supporting her campaign.
Who are your members of Congress? Will you be voting for them?
Before I sign off, I’ll leave you with two more recent tweets to ponder:
If the ban were announced with a one week notice, the "bad" would rush into our country during that week. A lot of bad "dudes" out there!

I stand with the people gathered across the country tonight defending our values & our Constitution. This is not who we are.
