Trivial Fights
I listened to his speech to Congress.
I had to, even though I didn’t want to. Even though it was painful. I have to know what he is saying so I know what I’m dealing with and stay resolved.
His fluffy words weren’t the worst of it. It was the incessant clapping. What were those people clapping for? What in the world were they so excited about?
He still wants to build that wall and take on the immigration “problem” while demonstrating no evidence of compassion, fairness, or sensibility. And without an accurate and honest characterization of the problem.
Speaking of honesty, he still lies or twists the facts in extremely harmful ways and takes credit for the achievements of others.
He wants to give $54b to the military by taking it away from programs such as the EPA.
He has filled his swamp with billionaires with little experience or genuine interest in the programs that they lead. Betsy DeVos called historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) pioneers of school choice. Jeff Sessions is all about increasing states’ rights by rolling back civil right protections put in place by the Obama administration. Both DeVos and Sessions should have parts in “Get Out”.
He attacks the press in ways that are frightening and more than hint at authoritarianism.
And yet, when he said “The time for trivial fights is over,” they stood and applauded.
Yes, I was feeling pretty low during and after that speech – though I have no plans to give up my trivial fight.
Then the news broke yesterday about the conversations Sessions had with the Russian diplomat during the campaign. The conversations he neglected to mention during the confirmation hearings.
And I became a little hopeful.
They can’t allow this, right? They can’t let this go. This is yet another connection to Russia. We really do need to dive deep into what happened, right?
We just need to be able to count on the two smirking bastards who were sitting behind him during his speech and their giddy, applauding cohorts.
